Last Day in Madrid

The second time going to any city always has a hard time living up to the memory of the first. Especially with a city you really like. Maybe the taste of inexperience is better. Madrid was amazing for us the first time here and while this time it was still great, it really is a city meant to be experienced, at least partially, after dark. With our children we found ourselves doing a little less dining out at nice restaurants and more to and from kid friendly activities. The heat was also hot enough to give us cause for concern so we weren’t outside as much. Still our stay in Madrid was a blast, we enjoyed the markets a lot, we loved reminiscing about the past, we LOVED Toledo, we all loved the buskers. This city seems to have gone under a pretty large transformation since we were last here 6 years + ago and we had a hard time putting a finger on it at first. In the end it just seems like it is growing up as a city, more fast food places, more blurred culture, tacky souvenirs made in China instead of by hand or in Span in the busy tourist areas. Again, maybe it was us being a little more wide-eyed the first time here but to us something has changed. The next chapter of our trip begins tomorrow in Lagos Portugal. And to that we celebrate…
